Half-Trillion Pesos Gone—Will Silence Cost Us More?

Half-Trillion Pesos Gone—Will Silence Cost Us More?

The truth is, change won’t happen overnight. Corruption and broken systems have been here for decades. But if we simply shrug and say, "that’s just how it is"—then nothing will ever change.

Just recently, reports revealed that over ₱545 billion has been poured into flood control projects in multiple cities in the Philippines, many of which are now under investigation for being "ghost projects." Lawmakers have even described this as "a grand robbery of our nation." Imagine that—half a trillion pesos meant for protection and progress, instead wasted, stolen, or lost in broken systems. I don’t usually write about politics, but in this extreme circumstance I just felt the need to speak out and say—this is not okay.

Yes, there are leaders like Vico who are making a difference. But real transformation will not come from one leader alone. It comes when ordinary people choose to act with courage and conviction right where they are.

That means:

  • Calling out what is wrong when we see it
  • Refusing to stay silent when silence only benefits the corrupt
  • Living with integrity in our own homes, workplaces, and communities

I may not have all the answers, and I don’t pretend to know where to start. But I do know this: God is calling us to be faithful in the small things, so that when the time comes, we can also be faithful in the big things.

My prayer is that we stop waiting for "another leader" to rise up. Instead, may each of us rise where we are planted. When we act with conviction, when we do what is right, we inspire others to do the same.

Let’s keep praying—for our leaders, for our nation, and for courage to stand up for what is right.

Because change doesn’t begin with politics. It begins with hearts aligned with God’s will.
