Palawan, a breathtaking province in the Philippines, is famous for its untouched natural splendor. The province spans about 270 miles in length and 24 miles in width, the main island boasts a mountainous terrain with peaks soaring over 6,800 feet. Many of its natural wonders remain unspoiled, surrounded by coral reefs and featuring over 1,800 smaller islands and islets. The coastline is a mix of rocky coves and pristine sandy beaches, while the interior is covered in extensive virgin forests. With no active volcanoes, fault lines, or trenches, Palawan is considered one of the safest places in the Philippines. It is also not on the usual path of tropical storms, making it an ideal place to reside and do business.
The region is a haven for diverse flora and fauna, including unique species like the Philippine mouse deer and purple crab. Its remote location and minimal development have preserved its natural habitats, particularly its coral reefs. Known as one of the Philippines’ last ecological frontiers, Palawan has frequently been named one of the world’s best islands by various travel publications.
Despite attracting many tourists, Palawan has maintained much of its natural allure and unspoiled charm. Puerto Princesa, the main city, and other coastal towns like El Nido and San Vicente serve as activity centers, yet large parts of the interior remain uninhabited. Palawan’s remote charm, stunning scenery, and rich biodiversity make it a true tropical paradise and a treasured destination in the Philippines.

Power
El Nido, Palawan
King Energy Generation, Inc. (KEG) is the current provider for electricity to the town of El Nido in Palawan. Palawan’s electric company, Paleco, chose KEG to supply 15 megawatts of power for the next 15 years. KEG will use a mix of traditional and renewable energy sources. KEG is partly owned by Filipinos and partly by foreigners. The company runs power plants in Mindanao that also use traditional and renewable energy. El Nido has been having problems with its electricity supply for years, like not having enough power and frequent blackouts. The new power deal with KEG aims to fix these issues in the tourism town.

Water
El Nido, Palawan
The water provider in El Nido, Palawan is managed by the Municipal Economic Enterprises and Development Office (MEEDO). MEEDO operates the Acosta water pumping station, which supplies water to the area. Before a solar power system was installed, the facility used diesel generators, which were expensive and sometimes caused water shortages. The solar power system, installed by One Meralco Foundation, has reduced costs and ensured a more reliable water supply for over 300 households, mostly made up of the Cuyonon ethnic group.
However, there have been challenges in filling the city’s water needs for the past years. Due to the company’s old structure of waterways and pipelines, COWD has challenges supplying water in the highly populated barangays resulting to slow water flows during certain times of the day. Due to this issue, high-end developers such as A Brown and Pueblo de Oro have their own deep-wells and supply the water to the residents inside their projects themselves.
